Borobudur Temple

The world’s largest Buddhist temple which is one of the works of “Master Piece” among the Seven Wonders of the World is located in the village of Borobudur Borobudur District of ± 3 km from the city Mungkid, Magelang, Central Java. Borobudur was built by King Samaratungga, one of the kings of ancient Mataram Kingdom, the descendant Wangsa Sailendra. Based on the inscriptions Kayumwungan, an Indonesian named Hudaya Kandahjaya revealed that Borobudur is a place of worship was completed on 26 May 824, almost a hundred years since the beginning of construction.

The name of Borobudur, as some people means a mountain having terraces (budhara), while the other says that Borobudur means monastery on the high ground.

Punden Borobudur-shaped building consists of 10 levels. Height 42 meters before being renovated and 34.5 meters after the renovation because the lowest level is used as a buffer. Six lowest level in square form and three levels on top of a circle and the highest levels of Buddhist stupa facing to the west.

Each level symbolizes the stages of human life. Appropriate school of Mahayana Buddhism, every person who wants to reach the level of a Buddha have to go through each stage of the life. The base of Borobudur, called Kamadhatu, symbolizing human beings who are still bound by lust. Four levels are called Rupadhatu symbolizes man who has been able to break free from lust but still bound manner and form. At these levels, the Buddha statue is laid open. Meanwhile, three levels above where the Buddhist stupas are laid in the holes called Arupadhatu, symbolizes man who was freed from lust, appearance, and shape. Borobudur Marathon 2016

In order to introduce the Central Java province to the International Community as well as a venue for the search and development of young seedlings athletics, and invite the community to love exercise, the Central Java Provincial Government in cooperation with PB PASI (Association of Athletics Indonesia) will hold a race Bank Jateng Borobudur Marathon 2016, of an activity to race along the 10 km road which takes place in the temple complex of Borobudur, Magelang, Central Java.

This event was organized as a competition the athletes run national and international levels which were first held in 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1995 under the name “Bob Hasan 10K” and then Pengprov PASI Central Java held in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2005 with the name “Borobudur 10K ‘. In the Year 2013 and Borobudur 10K began to be revived under the name “Borobudur International 10K 2013” which will be an annual event with the results of a champion as follows: Elite International Men’s Josphat Kiptanul Chobel (Ethiopia 28 “52), Elite International Women’s Viola Jelagat (Kenya 34 “07), the National Elite Men Herianto Raego (32” 19), and the National Elite Women Marince Submaefu (37 “25).
